This years Scottish Ladies Singles Championship held at Elgin's Bowl 2000 saw nine of the country's top players battle it out for the prestigious title. The competition was of the highest standard and was played in great spirit throughout the day. Last years winner Susan Collins (Elgin) was hot favourite leading into the event and looked in sparkling form in the group stages, winning all 4 of her matches and only dropping 3 frames in the proceedings to advance through to the semi finals.
Karin Burt would be the second player to advance through from group 2 after beating Kim Marshall (Cowdenbeath) 3-0 and Laura Duncan (Buckie) 3-0 in a round robin play-off after all three players finished level on points.

Caroline Duguid (Buckie) finished top of group 1 to progress through to the semi finals and was joined by region 4's rising star Angie Tidball (Keith) who earned her place after a hard fought 4-3 black ball victory against Dundee's Audrey Beckett.

The semi finals were both close affairs with Susan collins coming back from the jaws of defeat to beat Angie Tidball 5-4. Susan would meet her close friend and international team mate Karin Burt (Aberdeenshire) in a final most people expected before the tournament began.
Karin eager to avenge previous defeats to Susan led from the start, producing some top class finishes, hardly missing a ball in the early stages of the match. Susan who is known for her come backs was facing a mammoth task at 5-1 down and on this occasion the deficit and the form Karin was showing proved too much for the Elgin star, as Karin once again cleaned up to take frame and match for a stunning 6-1 victory and the most coveted title in women's pool in Scotland.

With the world championships a stone throw away the ladies game looks in fine fettle. Good luck to all those travelling down south to Blackpool next month, do yourselves and your country proud. C'mon Scotland!!
