The race for the top spot in the rankings is really heating up after event three of the SEPF Border Tour held at the Blue Bell Hotel in Lockerbie. The day's play was a marathon with almost every match going the full distance to the last frame.

Congratulations to Malcolm MacDonald and Alan Pagan for their first time appearances in the quarter final stages. James McGregor put in his usual solid performance again reaching the quarter final stages beating fellow Doonhamer players Steven Tait (Mr T) and Andy Kelly on the way.

The standout performance of the event was from Stan Thomson (The Border League) claiming the scalp of John Murray, a two times tour winner, despite John taking a three frames to nil lead. Stan then battled his way all the way to the final defeating (the man in black), Duncan Lowery, James McGregor and past tour event runner up Scott Simpson from Hawick, all again just by the single frame required. Kevin MacKay the tours "Mr Consistent" bagged his usual haul of 29 ranking points as at each event so far to secure his solid eighth place in the overall rankings. He is tipped to go further at the next event.

Mike (The Main Man) McDonald dusted off this cue and reached the final after several top class performances to tame the beast (Chris Wildig), Scott Bowers and Barry Young.

Luck then ran both ways during the final in which Stan took the early lead. Mike fudged his way right back into the game with Stan again taken to a final frame decider. Mike left a tempting tough black which Stan took on and potted but also unluckily potted Mike's last ball to lose the frame. Could this be the start of a tour challenge from Mike? Stan will be looking to win next time around.

John maintains his top spot in the ranking with a reduced lead ahead of Barry and Stan. The fourth tour event takes place in Annan at the Anglers Club on Sunday 15 August 2010.
