Lockerbie & District Pool League recently hosted a visit by Mr. George Harwood, President of the European Eightball Pool Federation, one of the most important figures in the world of cue sports. The occasion marked the official announcement that the popular local pool league has achieved the accolade of affiliation with the Scottish Eightball Pool Federation, which is recognised by both the European and World Eightball Pool Federations as the governing body for Pool in Scotland. League Chairman Mr. Barry Young welcomed the announcement "Membership of the SEPF is a tremendous boost for the Lockerbie & District Pool league as it both acknowledges the high standard of play in the league and gives our local players access to the highest levels of the sport, including eligibility for selection to play for Scotland". The committee voted thanks to Mike McDonald the proprietor of the Blue Bell Hotel himself a retired professional pool player for hosting the event and his key role over the last few years in supporting the leagues development. Mike welcomed the announcement "I am confident that many local players have the ability and now the opportunity to compete at the highest levels of the sport". George formally welcomed the league into newly formed SEPF region covering the South of Scotland which will shortly be hosting a series of touring competitions throughout the South of Scotland developing pool at local levels. George congratulated Chris Silver winner of the pool competition held to mark the occasion and highlighted the fantastic opportunities for Lockerbie League players to compete for entry to prestigious forthcoming national and international competitions including, the World Pool Masters and the Fosters World Championships being held in the UK this year at Blackpool in June.
